BATH OPERA

Participatory performance-installation

BATH OPERA is a participatory performance-installation inspired by rituals of public baths and collective practices of listening and singing, emphasizing the transformative power of communal experience.

The piece explores themes of sonic wellness, public bathing rituals, and queer bathhouse culture.

FINNISH SAUNA RITUAL

Drawing from her Finnish heritage, Dyck draws inspiration from the sauna ritual as a structure and performance score. The work seeks to emulate the power of communal rest and wellbeing as experienced in shared bathing experiences

QUEER BATH HOUSE CULTURE

Bath houses have been of notable importance for the queer community as spaces for gathering and caring, and cruising, where sound and dialogue can thrive and codes and norms can be called into question

SOUND BATHING

Water, resonant with sound, mirrors the human body's high water content, making us highly receptive to vibrations that cleanse and heal. Sound baths, utilizing specific frequencies, can alter our physical and mental state. Vibrations from sound have healing properties, transforming the water within our bodies
